Age-related changes in the face are most susceptible to the skin around the eyes. Therefore, blepharoplasty, or eyelid surgery, has become the most popular plastic surgery on the face. This procedure is performed on patients with wrinkles on the upper or lower eyelids, “bags under the eyes”, as well as to eliminate the effect of sagging of the upper eyelids.
How eyelid surgery is performed in the CatchLife Aesthetic clinic in Turkey
The period during which the examination takes place before the operation: from 1 to 3 days.
Duration of blepharoplasty: from 30 minutes to 2 hours, depending on the type of eyelid surgery used.
The operation can be performed on an outpatient basis or in a hospital setting. In the first case, the patient immediately after blepharoplasty leaves the clinic and goes home, and in the second case, he stays for one day in the clinic.
Anaesthesia: general or local anaesthesia is possible, which is given to the patient in conjunction with sedative drugs.
Location of incisions: on the inside of the lower eyelid, directly under the eyelashes or along the crease of the upper eyelid. Wounds are sutured with special very thin surgical threads.
Blepharoplasty recovery
In the postoperative period, the patient usually experiences discomfort associated with the presence of edema, as well as bandages (when performing upper blepharoplasty and lower eyelid surgery with an incision, light strips are applied – thin strips of skin-coloured plaster). Usually, all unpleasant symptoms disappear within a few days after the operation. Smoking patients need to keep in mind that the process of tissue healing in them in any case will be slower.
In the first 2-3 weeks, slight swelling and scars that are dense to the touch at the outer corner of the eye may remain noticeable. When operating on the upper eyelid, it is important that the incision is made in a place where the scar will be least noticeable. The risk of infection in the skin of the eyelids is minimal since the blood circulation is good here.
Postoperative bleeding is extremely rare. However, many patients develop “bruising” and swelling above and below the eyes, and in the first few days after the operation, most of them do not look presentable.
In the early postoperative period, the doctor prescribes physiotherapeutic procedures to speed up the process of removing edema.
Thanks to stable results and a shortened rehabilitation period, blepharoplasty is one of the three most popular plastic surgeries over the past 10 years. Experts estimate that more than 1.5 million such interventions are performed annually in the world, and the popularity of the procedure continues to grow.
